SUMMARY:CB Music Fest: Home Soiree - The Music of Django Reinhardt
DESCRIPTION:Performers: Hot House West Trio \nQuote: “Few modern jazz groups play music that is both readily accessible and deeply sophisticated. Hot House West has built their home at that rarest of intersections.” \nOne of the country’s most exciting young jazz bands is coming to Crested Butte to perform music by the founder of gypsy jazz\, Django Reinhardt. Hot House West just released an album of Django’s music and it’s amazing! (https://hothousewest.bandcamp.com/album/django-in-orbit) The band takes a traditional approach to Django’s music\, and their performances will transport you to 1930s Paris. \nDjango Reinhardt was the founder of the style of jazz known as “gypsy jazz.” He blended Parisian jazz of the 1930s with the chromaticism of gypsy music that he learned from his Romani upbringing. While dying suddenly of a stroke at only 43 years of age\, his music has defined an entire genre that today is flourishing. Hot House West brings this music to life like no other!

SUMMARY:CB Music Festival: Taarka
DESCRIPTION:Taarka seamlessly fuses brilliant instrumental chops with songwriting of great depth and creativity\, cooking up musical “sustenance that stays with you long after you’ve pushed away from the table.” Adventurers through the many landscapes of music and true world travelers\, veterans of 1000-year floods and veggie oil tour buses\, David (voice\, mandolin\, guitar\, and octave mandolin) and Enion Pelta-Tiller (voice\, 5-string violin)\, accompanied by the talents of Troy Robey (bass) and Larry Thompson (drums) spin stories and melodies that delight\, inspire\, and move all who listen. \nOnce described as “a collision between Django Reinhardt and David Grisman” (SF Weekly)\, Taarka’s strikes a balance between well-crafted songs and spirited instrumentals\, expanding on their beginnings as a purely instrumental string band putting a modern spin on Gypsy and Eastern European folk music. Taarka has drawn from wide-ranging influences over the past 16 years. Since 2006\, when David and Enion landed in Lyons\, CO\, known for its bluegrass and new acoustic scene their compositional output has taken on a decidedly American bent\, with vocals added to enhance the stories told in their songs. \nCLICK HERE FOR TICKETS

SUMMARY:CB Music Festival: Resound Immersive Exploration (RISE) Camp
DESCRIPTION:RISE is Crested Butte Music Festival’s program for advanced-degree level and early-stage professional classical vocalists. We offer specialized training\, assisting singers in honing their identity and excelling as self-sufficient artists. Participants will prepare non-traditional\, multi-genre recital programs of their own creating\, and\, through a series of lessons\, coaching\, classes and seminars\, gain the skills to prepare grant proposals\, pitch to presenters\, fund their projects and successfully perform them. \n———– \nThe three-week\, tuition-free program will culminate in public concerts accompanied by members of our faculty. \nHow to Participate: RISE will choose eight vocal fellows to join us in the stunningly beautiful mountain town of Crested Butte\, Colorado. Participants are chosen based on a combination of the strength of their recital program proposal and submitted video recordings. \nPlease note\, there is no live audition round. RISE will provide host-housing in Crested Butte\, however participants are responsible for their own travel to and from the festival. The town of Crested Butte has free bus shuttles that make getting around town easy. Required:   – $50 application fee (non-refundable) – recent bio and resume – recent headshot – recital program* – 1 grant style proposal* – 2 video recordings * – names and contact information of two recommenders (phone number\, email\, relationship to applicant) *Recital programs must be rooted in a theme or concept that is expressed by the repertoire\, and must include non-musical elements that enhance the overall expression of the theme (e.g. still image/video projections\, choreography\, reading of texts\, etc.). \nAlthough we are unable to provide the artists who practice other mediums to build your program with\, your time with us will be used to discover how best to implement your vision and to plan the development of the fully realized version of your performance. *You must provide us with a first draft of a grant style proposal\, outlining your vision\, required budget\, and how you would use the grant funds. \nBy the end of the three-week session\, you will have developed a strong proposal that can be used as a base for a variety of grant opportunities. *Video recordings must consist of at least two selections in contrasting styles. At least one must be in English. One or both must be a modern or contemporary composition (composed after 1950). At least one of the selections must be a classical composition\, the second may be in any language\, period or style\, including compositional styles considered classical-adjacent (musical theater\, jazz\, cabaret etc.). The performances must have been recorded in the last three years. \nClick Here to Register
