SUMMARY:43rd Annual Red Lady Salvation Ball
DESCRIPTION:High Country Conservation Advocates is thrilled to present the 43rd Annual RED LADY SALVATION BALL on Friday\, March 6th\, 2020 at the Public House in Crested Butte featuring local favorite Easy Jim. Mark your calendars to get your RED on and join our efforts to SAVE RED LADY! \nFor 43 years\, HCCA has tirelessly worked to protect Mt. Emmons (endearingly known to locals as “Red Lady”) from being desecrated by a proposed molybdenum mine. Rising to the west of and above the town of Crested Butte\, Red Lady is a beloved icon of our valley that captures the beauty of sunsets and sunrises like no other mountain. \nCome support our efforts at the 43rd Annual Ball by dancing the night away to Easy Jim\, Gunnison Valley’s tribute to the Grateful Dead. Just like the original\, Easy Jim features two drummers\, two guitars\, bass\, and keys. The band is comprised of well-known local musicians: Dwayne Dodson\, Zach Gorsuch\, Tyler Lucas\, Kevin Reinert\, and Ben Wright. Their shows are dedicated to preserving the songs and creative inspiration of the Grateful Dead\, and represent the complete repertoire of the band throughout its storied history. You’ll experience Bob Weir’s cowboy songs\, Jerry Garcia’s ballads\, Phil’s bass drops\, the Rhythm Devil’s infectious beat\, rockers\, jammers\, and everything in between. They are ready to turn up the heat as they join us to celebrate and SAVE RED LADY! \nThis year’s Ball will be held at the Public House (202 Elk Avenue) starting at 7:30 p.m. featuring a happy hour with appetizers. At 9:00 p.m.\, get REDDY to dance as Easy Jim takes center stage. The crowning of the 43rd RED LADY and the fantastic raffle will be at 10:30 p.m.\, after which Easy Jim will take the stage yet again to keep us dancing the night away! \nTickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door and include a 1-year HCCA membership and delicious appetizers! This event is sure to sell out\, get your tickets today!

SUMMARY:CFTA: Wine Wednesdays
DESCRIPTION:Wine Wednesdays Tasting Series\n\n\n\n\nExpand your palate as you experience the subtleties and intricacies of wine in this three-part series\, curated and presented by Sommelier Aaron Tomcak of Mountain Spirits Liquors. Travel to Spain\, Oregon and Italy throughout these laid-back classes\, learning how to describe a wine’s taste and smell; how to judge a wine’s color\, aroma\, flavor and body; and the meaning of such wine concepts as dryness\, acidity\, fruitiness\, tannins\, varietals and vintages. Price includes heavy appetizers from Chef Tim Egelhoff and tasting flights of 4 – 6 wines. Series Location: The Center King Community Room. \nInstructor: Mountain Spirits Liquors Sommelier + Owner Aaron Tomcak\nCost: $45 per class\n5:30 – 7:30 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn a chilly winter evening\, transport yourself to the beautiful terroir of España. With more of its land under vine than any other country\, it should come as no surprise that Spanish wines are some of the best in the world. From Rioja and Priorat to Cava and Andalucía\, this tasting takes you on a journey through the unique regions and grape varietals of Spain\, including Tempranillo\, Albariño\, Garnacha and more.\n\n\n\n\nKnown for producing elegant and distinct Pinot Noir\, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay\, Oregon’s Willamette Valley is a hot spot for oenophiles. On the same latitude as France’s Burgundy region\, the Willamette is known for inopportune frosts\, scarce sunshine and passionate winemakers and viticulturists who cultivate over three-quarters of their vines with that touchy variety\, Pinot Noir. Learn about this stunning and fickle growing region as you taste fine wines\, including some that may surprise you!\n\n\n\n\nWhile wine lovers may immediately associate Piedmont with Barolo and Barbaresco and the noble Nebbiolo grape\, this tasting introduces students to a wide variety of interesting and complex wines from this incredibly beautiful and fertile region sandwiched between the Alps and the Mediterranean. From Barbera and Dolcetto to Moscato and Cortese\, sample a selection of fine and off-the-beaten-path wines.

SUMMARY:Center for the Arts: Martin Sexton
DESCRIPTION:American singer-songwriter Martin Sexton is highly regarded as a musician’s musician. A Syracuse native\, Sexton got his start singing in the streets and subways of Boston in the early 90’s and is now known for his wide vocal range and fingerstyle guitar. This one-of-a-kind troubadour blends soul\, gospel\, country\, rock\, blues and R&B\, causing the Los Angeles Times to label him a soul poet\, folkie and rocker simultaneously. Fiercely independent\, Sexton has infiltrated many musical worlds\, collaborating with John Mayer and Peter Frampton as well as performing in venues as diverse as New Orleans Jazz Fest\, Carnegie Hall\, Bonnaroo and Jam Cruise. His songs are featured in Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” and “Brotherhood;” NBC’s “Scrubs” and “Parenthood;” and IFC’s film “Lucky Them.” Says the Boston Globe\, “Sexton is ripe with raw\, expansive talent. His voice comes in a hundred impossible shades. His songs are sweet and spirited and soulful.
