SUMMARY:CB Museum: Holiday Polka Party w/Pete Dunda
DESCRIPTION:Show off your best polka skills on December 28th from 4pm-6pm\, festive outfits are encouraged! During the mining days of Crested Butte and many other mountain towns in Colorado\, immigrants from Croatia\, Slovenia\, and other countries brought the music and sounds to their new homes. Polka has a deep history in Crested Butte and was a way for the locals at the time to wind down and enjoy themselves. \nJoin us for a fun filled evening of this traditional style of music and dancing!  This event is free\, however we encourage a donation to the museum to keep this type of programming accessible for everyone. \nMake a Donation\n

SUMMARY:Light Up The Nights
DESCRIPTION:Welcome The Holidays as a Community!\nCelebrate the start of the Holiday Season with us as Santa lights up Mt. Crested Butte Holiday tree \nJOIN US DECEMBER 10\, 2021 AT 5:30PM \nMountaineer Square\, Mt Crested Butte\nFree photos with Santa\, Hot Chocolate\, S’mores and more! \nLight Up The Night is an opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the beginning of the holiday season each year. We will continue the tradition this year while we witness the Holiday Tree in Mt. Crested Butte come to life for the first time this season. After a few uncertain years we will once again join together as a community to enjoy music\, hot cocoa\, s’mores\, and of course a visit with Santa! Join us in Mountaineer Square for an evening of fun and celebration! \n  \nReindeer Scavenger Hunt\nOUR REINDEER TEAM IS MISSING\, CAN YOU HELP US FIND THEM? \nOur team of Reindeer have been running all over town since last holiday season. Can you help us spot them in local businesses? We will be searching for our reindeer from December 8 through December 15\, 2021. Want to join the fun? Scavenger Hunt Lists with the Reindeer’s last known locations will be available to pick up in the Crested Butte Visitor Center or at participating businesses during this time. But be wary\, these reindeer are just coming off vacation and could be a little cranky\, so do not approach them! If you spot one\, find an employee of the establishment you are in and let them know that you have spotted a reindeer! They will then initial your list and we will deploy our reindeer capture team! Once you have spotted 10 or more reindeer\, bring your list back to the Crested Butte Visitor Center for a sweet treat! \n  \nHoliday Window Display Contest\nSEE THE SIGHTS AROUND TOWN AND MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT! \nHoliday window displays have been a winter attraction since the first time Macy’s decorated their windows in 1874. This holiday season\, take part in Crested Butte’s very own Holiday Window Display Contest December 8 through December 15\, 2021! Stop by the Crested Butte Visitor Center to pick up a list of participating businesses and your blue voting ornament! Once you decide which window display is your favorite\, give your blue voting ornament to an employee of the business. The business with the most ornaments by December 15\, 2021 will be our Public Choice winner! This year we will also have a Pro-Judging category\, judged by the Visitor Center’s very own Information Specialists! Winners will be announced in the Crested Butte News on December 23. \n

SUMMARY:Film Series: School of Rock
DESCRIPTION:Steddy Theater\nJoin in at the Grace Atrium Lobby starting 30 minutes before the movie for themed drinks\, mingling\, and fresh-popped popcorn. \nOverly enthusiastic guitarist Dewey Finn (Jack Black) gets thrown out of his bar band and finds himself in desperate need of work. Posing as a substitute music teacher at an elite private elementary school\, he exposes his students to the hard rock gods he idolizes and emulates — much to the consternation of the uptight principal (Joan Cusack). As he gets his privileged and precocious charges in touch with their inner rock ‘n’ roll animals\, he imagines redemption at a local Battle of the Bands. \nPLEASE NOTE:  Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test must be shown for entry to events at the Center.   \nSee the current COVID policy HERE.

SUMMARY:CB Music Fest: Jazz Through the Seasons
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Through the Seasons \n>Purchase Tickets for This Event< \nCBMF’s  Music + Movie Series pairs a live performance with a film related to the music being performed. By juxtaposing performance and film\, you’ll gain greater insight and context into both the music\, composer\, performing artist\, and filmmaker. And\, it’s tremendous fun! \nIn this pairing\, we’ll enjoy a jazz performance on a crisp autumn evening and then watch a film about a jazz festival during a hot summer day. \nPerformers: Mark Harris Trio \nThe evening’s performance features one of the most creative jazz musicians performing and teaching today. Saxophonist Mark Harris has played in bands backing artists Billy Eckstein\, Joe Williams\, Cab Calloway\, Bob Hope\, Natalie Cole\, and the Temptations\, and he has performed with luminary artists such as Roger Waters of Pink Floyd and Fred Frith. He performs original music with Hamster Theatre\, Thinking Plague\, Random Axe\, and performs in classical chamber ensembles Metro Wind Consort and the Lamont Sax Quartet. \nAfter experiencing live the incricies of jazz performance\, we’ll enjoy a new and beautiful remastering (2020) of one of the most famous and important music documentaries. Jazz on a Summer’s Day is a concert film set at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island\, directed by commercial and fashion photographer Bert Stern and Aram Avakian\, who also edited the film. The Columbia Records jazz producer\, George Avakian\, was the musical director of the film. The film mixes images of water and the city with the performers and audience at the festival. It also features scenes of the 1958 America’s Cup yacht races. The film is largely without dialog or narration and features performances by legendary jazz artists such as Jimmy Giuffre\, Thelonious Monk\, Sonny Stitt\, Anita O’Day\, Dinah Washington\, Gerry Mulligan\, Chuck Berry\, Chico Hamilton\, and Louis Armstrong with Jack Teagarden. \nBetween performance and film screening\, Dr. Erik Christian Peterson will offer perspicacious comments about both the music performed and the film\, and we’ll play a trivia game with the opportunity to win prizes.
